ARTIST STATEMENT

My acrylic paintings are centered around illustrating images of Afrocentric culture. I seek to give my audiences an experience of heightened consciousness by presenting a story through faces and expressions with a hidden concept in every piece. My paintings tell stories that emerge through vibrant colors, visible brush strokes, shapes, and textures.

All my pieces have a unique style that is distinct to my love for intricate patterns and sequences. Visual elements contrast with experience of a recognizable subject to engage the viewer’s perception at an emotional or spiritual level. I allow my own experiences from Africa and my daily life guide me during the painting process. For Ofiliated 3 , I want to pass a message about the social media facades ( envy, camouflage and variations of social pressures) and shed a light on it’s negative impact. Through my original pieces, I would love to contribute to achieving self love, and embracement of inner happiness from a different lens.
